Data Visualization with R — Base Graphics · last updated 4 October 2026
This notice covers viz-base.rsquaredacademy.com, the online edition of
Data Visualization with R: Base Graphics. The book is free to read and
requires no account, no login and no payment.
The book itself collects nothing. There is no comment system, no newsletter signup, no user account and no email field anywhere on the site, so nothing you do here identifies you to us.
The one exception is optional, off-by-default website analytics, described below.
Nothing is sent to Google unless you click "Accept analytics". A banner appears on your first visit. Until you accept, no request is made to Google, no analytics cookie is set, and no measurement data is transmitted. Declining is equally easy, and you can change your mind afterwards using the “Analytics preferences” button in the bottom-left corner of every page.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What would be collected? | Page views, and the referring site and country Google derives from the request. |
| Who receives it? | Google Analytics, Google LLC, under its own privacy terms. We can see aggregate reports only — no individual visitor records. |
| How long is it kept? | Google's default retention, currently 14 months. |
| Is it used for advertising? | No. Google Analytics is not configured for ad personalisation or remarketing, and this site runs no ads. |
| Do you sell or share it? | No. Nothing is sold, shared or used for profiling. |
| Can I be identified? | Not by us. Google Analytics here records no name, email address, or account, and IP anonymisation is automatic under GA4. |
| Does the book use local storage? | Only to remember your analytics choice. That value is never transmitted. |
| What about the PDF and ePub downloads? | They are static files. Downloading one sets no cookie and sends no analytics. |
| Are there third-party cookies? | None other than Google's, and only after you accept. The site embeds no advertising, social or font-CDN scripts. |
The interactive playground at the end of Chapters 2 to 4 runs R in your browser through WebAssembly. It executes entirely on your machine: your keystrokes and the data you type stay in your browser and are never sent anywhere. No package downloads are needed, because the book's plotting code uses nothing outside base R.
All site fonts, stylesheets and scripts are served from this domain. No content is loaded from a third-party CDN.
The site is published via GitHub Pages. GitHub serves the files and, like any web server, necessarily sees the IP address and user agent of each request in order to respond. GitHub's handling of that data is covered by the GitHub Privacy Statement.
Under the GDPR and comparable regimes you have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict processing of personal data relating to you, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. Because this site collects no personal data beyond the optional analytics described above, and provides no way to identify an individual visitor, we cannot retrieve data for a named person. Analytics-level rights are best exercised directly with Google through your Google Account's data and privacy controls.
This site is not directed at children under 13, and it collects no personal information from anyone.
